April 14, 2006, Newsletter Issue #11: Extending the Life of Your Vinyl Tile Flooring

Tip of the Week

As durable as vinyl tile flooring is, it still will age over time. There are ways to help increase the lifespan of your vinyl tile floors and they are easy to do. Here are some vinyl flooring tips to help you get the most out of yours: First, make sure that you pick a vinyl tile flooring with a good seal on the top. In order to protect this top layer from peeling, you should regularly apply a sealing polish that is safe for vinyl tile flooring. Another way to ensure a longer life for your floors is to keep particles from accumulating in the crevasses between your tiles. When you install your vinyl tile, make sure that you get the tiles good and close together. There will always be a tiny gap, so it is important to keep that gap clear from any obstructions. Over time, accumulating particles will get underneath the vinyl tile flooring and cause peeling. Use a toothbrush if necessary to get all of it out. Lastly, you can keep you vinyl tile looking new by mopping with a standard sponge mop. Stay clear of rag mops for vinyl tile flooring because they carry a lot of moisture that can seep into the cracks and cause lifting of edges. These few tips can help keep your vinyl tile flooring looking great for years to come.
